New Delhi: The Government of India marked 12 Years of Swasth Bharat, highlighting the country’s progress in making quality healthcare more affordable, accessible and inclusive for citizens across the nation.
As part of the occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared the message of #12YearsOfSwasthBharat, stating that India has worked consistently over the last 12 years to strengthen healthcare services and bring medical support closer to people. The initiative focused on key achievements such as expanded healthcare coverage, affordable medicines, improved medical infrastructure and better access to treatment for vulnerable sections of society.
One of the major highlights of this journey has been Ayushman Bharat, described as one of the world’s largest healthcare programmes. The scheme has played an important role in supporting families with access to medical treatment and reducing the financial burden caused by serious illness and hospitalisation.
The government also highlighted the role of the Pradhan Mantri Bharatiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana, which has helped make essential medicines available at affordable prices. Along with this, steps taken to reduce the cost of stents and knee implants have provided relief to many patients who require critical procedures.
Another important area of progress has been the expansion of medical education. With more medical colleges and increased seats, the government stated that medical education has become more accessible, helping strengthen the future healthcare workforce of the country.
The 12-year journey of Swasth Bharat reflects India’s larger commitment to building a healthier nation. From public health insurance and affordable medicines to digital health systems and stronger medical infrastructure, the focus has been on making healthcare not just available, but also within reach of common citizens.
The government reiterated its commitment to continue building on this progress and work towards the goal of a healthier India.
