Kolkata, 3rd May 2025 – In a momentous celebration of progress and purpose, Antara Psychiatric Hospital & Rehabilitation Centre hosted a prestigious Continued Medical Education (CME) event at Pride Plaza Hotel, New Town, Kolkata, highlighting two landmark achievements in the field of mental healthcare.

The event served as the official launch of Antara’s DNB (Psychiatry) Program, making it the first hospital in West Bengal to be accredited by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS). This milestone marks a significant leap forward in academic psychiatry in the region, providing advanced training opportunities for young medical professionals.
Adding another feather to its cap, Antara also inaugurated the ‘Home for the Homeless Mentally Ill Persons’, a heartfelt initiative aimed at offering shelter and rehabilitation to individuals suffering from severe mental illness and social neglect. This compassionate project is supported by Coal India Ltd. and the Azim Premji Philanthropic Initiatives, reflecting the power of collaboration in driving social change.
The evening began with a serene lamp lighting ceremony, followed by an inspiring keynote address by Dr. Debasish Basu, Head of Psychiatry at PGI Chandigarh. The event also brought together Kolkata’s leading psychiatrists for a rich and insightful panel discussion on ‘Rehabilitation in Psychiatry – Current Scenario’, moderated by Dr. Soumya Chatterjee, Chief Psychiatrist at Antara.
The occasion not only celebrated Antara’s growing influence in mental healthcare but also reinforced its commitment to human dignity and inclusive rehabilitation.
Heartfelt congratulations to the entire team at Antara for these remarkable achievements and for their unwavering dedication to transforming lives through compassionate mental health care.
