Naharlagun, April 12, 2025 — In a proactive step toward addressing the growing opioid crisis in Arunachal Pradesh, the Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS), Naharlagun, inaugurated its Opioid Substitution Therapy (OST) centre today. This initiative is part of the state’s comprehensive strategy to provide compassionate, evidence-based solutions to drug dependence.
The newly launched OST centre will offer medically supervised treatment using safe alternatives like Buprenorphine, enabling individuals addicted to opioids to manage withdrawal symptoms and gradually reintegrate into society.
The inauguration was attended by officials from the State Health Department, senior doctors, NGO representatives, and social workers. Speaking at the event, a senior health official emphasized the life-saving potential of OST, noting that it plays a critical role not just in rehabilitation, but also in reducing transmission risks of diseases such as HIV and Hepatitis C.
TRIHMS’ OST centre is expected to become a model of integrated de-addiction care in the region, bringing hope and structured recovery to many struggling with substance use.
