CM Pema Khandu Opens New MCH Wing at Namsai Hospital, Announces Key Healthcare Steps

Namsai, Arunachal Pradesh — Chief Minister Pema Khandu inaugurated the newly completed Maternal and Child Health (MCH) wing at the Namsai District Hospital on Saturday, reinforcing his government’s strong focus on health and education.

During the event, Khandu stated that healthcare and education remain the state’s top priorities, and shared plans to improve both infrastructure and staff strength across Arunachal Pradesh.

Key Highlights from the CM’s Visit:

  • Over 1,000 new positions have been approved in the health department; recruitment is actively taking place.
  • A new medical college will be established in Namsai through the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
  • Deputy CM Chowna Mein is in talks with reputed institutions to set up a high-quality medical college in eastern Arunachal.
  • Posting of doctors and medical staff is being adjusted to ensure equal staffing, especially in areas like Namsai that need more support.
  • Steps are being taken to fill vacancies in PHCs and CHCs, using transfers and new hiring.

The new MCH building, approved under the National Health Mission (NHM) in the financial year 2022-23, cost ₹12 crore and was finished in June. It spans 28,356 sq ft and was constructed by the Namsai Rural Works Division. It adds to the main hospital building, which was built earlier under the RIDF scheme at a cost of ₹24 crore.

During his visit, CM Khandu also met patients, handed out fruit baskets, and appreciated the dedication of the medical team. He acknowledged the staffing issues in districts like Namsai, which has over one lakh residents, and assured that solutions are being implemented.

“Health protects our people, and education drives their progress. These two will continue to be our focus,” Khandu said.

With this new facility, Namsai is strengthening its position as a healthcare centre for the surrounding regions, offering better care for mothers and children.
