Ludhiana, May 2, 2025 — The Department of Ophthalmology and Community Medicine at Dayanand Medical College & Hospital (DMC&H), in collaboration with SEVA Canada and Dr. Shroff’s Charity Eye Hospital, Delhi, inaugurated Project ROSHANI—a pioneering pediatric ophthalmology initiative focused on eliminating preventable childhood blindness in Punjab.
The launch ceremony, held at DMC&H, was attended by key dignitaries including Sh. Mukesh Verma, Treasurer, DMC&H Managing Society; Dr. G.S. Wander, Principal, DMC&H; Dr. Bishav Mohan, Chief Cardiologist, Hero DMC Heart Institute; and Dr. Sandeep Sharma, Medical Superintendent. Also present were Dr. Ashwani K. Chaudhary, Dr. Sandeep Kaushal (Dean Academics), and international guests Dr. Ken Bassett, Katie Judson, and Dr. John Judson from SEVA Canada. Dr. Suma Ganesh, Director of Pediatric Ophthalmology, and Mr. K. Anand Sudhan represented Dr. Shroff’s Charity Eye Hospital. Prominent NGOs such as Have a Heart Foundation, Noble Foundation, We Excel, and FICCI FLO also participated.
Project ROSHANI, spearheaded by Dr. Priyanka Arora, Professor, Department of Ophthalmology, DMC&H, aims to ensure early detection, timely treatment, and increased awareness of childhood eye disorders, especially in underserved rural communities. The initiative includes school-based eye screening camps, community outreach programs, and access to affordable or free surgical treatments for children suffering from vision impairments.

With strong institutional backing and global collaboration, Project ROSHANI sets a benchmark in pediatric eye care and represents a hopeful stride towards an avoidable blindness-free Punjab.
